Tomatoes And Rain
Posted by Pastoral Musings on July 6th, 2012
Ahhhh! There’s something wonderful about a garden.
Unfortunately my tomatoes didn’t do very well this year. My yield was low and the quality even lower. Part of that is probably due to the lack of rain.
Today I decided to pick everything and pickle the green tomatoes with onions, carrots, and jalapeno peppers. The new product tasted pretty good. I can hardly wait the recommended three weeks until I can open a jar and taste them then.
Then, thankfully, something else happened!
Rain! Wonderful, cooling, refreshing, earth watering rain!

I didn’t realise you were a gardner! Furthermore, you bottle your own, awesome! We use a Fowlers preserving unit. We had a terrible tomato season this past summer. It never really warmed up enough. Now the season before we were overwhelmed.

Our weather was not conducive to a good tomato crop. I combined mine with others that were given to me for hot salsa. I did manage to do ok getting the green ones for canning.
I now have summervpeas growing.
