Theology As Comfort In Sickness

Posted by Pastoral Musings on October 13th, 2010

Matt Chandler on how he’s facing cancer:

the thing that kept sustaining me was theology, which sounds so crazy because I know particularly when the interest is reaching people, theology or doctrine almost becomes like a bad word. But for me, it was the firm ground that I kept landing on. I mean, I could keep landing on the fact that I understood from the Scriptures that although God ultimately did not cause this, He did nothing to stop it, and He could do whatever He wanted with it at any point.

Now, will you dear, misguided folks who think that theology is dry, musty, and boring be quiet?!?!  I’ve seen the same thing happen in the life of others who suffered and died.  Please don’t take away our only hope.

We cannot do without theology.
