Pastoral Musings

Thoughts, essays, and miscellanea…

An Interesting Quote

Posted by Pastoral Musings on June 19th, 2012

The Creator Who knows the thoughts of man, chose to communicate the highest truth on wich His world was built through sublime artistry- omitting all that did not contribute towards His Divine purpose and investing every word and letter with infinite depths of meaning. The Torah according to the traditional view, is no mere literal recording of historical events, a chronicle of facts, scientific or otherwise, but a highly selective manual of moral and religious lessons which are illustrated in the main developments in the universe since its creation seen from the vantage point of its Divine Author.

From “The Devout Jew And His Literature” by Aryeh Newman; quoted in “Studies In Bereshit (Genesis)” by Nehama Leibowitz
