Evolving Morals

06.25.2008 · Posted in apologetics

As I have stated in previous posts those who believe in evolution cannot hold to absolute truth.  Neither will they have a moral standard that stays the same.

In a case related to capital punishment, “Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion that “evolving standards of decency” in the United States forbid capital punishment for any crime other than murder. Execution of Patrick Kennedy, the justices ruled, would be unconstitutional.”

Did you get that?  We have no sure standard for morality.  What is right today may not be right tomorrow.  What is wrong today may be right tomorrow.  Who knows?  In fact, how will one know if right and wrong have changed?  By what standard will they be judged?

Please don’t give me the standard reply that those who believe in evolution can still form a society with morals.  Tell me HOW that can be done.   HOW is the question.  After all, whose morals do you use?  Why would you make one particular set of morals the standard?  How long would that standard last?  What good would it do?

On the other hand, Christian theism understood in its context will provide the basis for a moral society that does good to all involved so long as they embrace the liberating truths of Christianity.

Just musing…
