The Duggars And Choice

“Michelle Duggar (from the TLC show in 2006) is pregnant with child #18…I don’t know what’s worse–this or the FLDS breeding! Both kinds are draining our social service system dry. Remember–the dad is a real estate broker, so you just KNOW he’s not making any money right now.

I wrote about this family back in 2006.”

I say, “from the waste basket indeed.”

I don’t know Wenchypoo’s stand on the issue of pro-life issues. Perhaps Wenchypoo is pro-life. I do not know.

What I do know is that we are all very interested in people giving us the right to make our own choices. On the other hand, however, when a person makes a choice that we don’t like, we make unfounded assumptions and accusations. We do not know that the Duggars accept government assistance. It is most likely that they do not, as they seem to present themselves as having a no debt lifestyle. That lifestyle is one of responsibility, not liability. In other words, they would be most likely to view it as improper (to say the least) for them to accept government aid.

There is also an assumption that Dad makes no money. Dad (if I recall correctly) is also an attorney, so he is not totally dependent on real estate.  Interestingly enough, I dare say that there’s a fair amount of money coming to them from the Discovery Channel. They seem to have a re-direct on the Duggar’s web page right now.

In the end, my question is this? Why cannot these people be left to make their choices? IF she were aborting all of these children hardly anything (if anything at all) would be said. It seems that the freedom of choice is reserved only for those who do not have Christian values and ethics.

Just musing…

I'm glad I read Suzanne's update, because it has been in the back of my mind since reading the previous comment, and I've sometimes wondered...

    Kathy,
    Thanks for stopping by.
I only wish that people who make unfounded assertions would acknowledge their error.

  • Suzanne Saj;
I hear so much about them getting the tax exemption cause they have a home chuch. That is all bogus. If you check their records they pay $11,000 a year for their property taxes and they do not send their kids to public schools. So why does this party think they are getting government assistance?

    Suzanne,
Still waiting for them to prove their allegations.
Seven months have passed, so I guess they have none.

They do not get government assistance, however, they have declared their home as a church so their income and purchases are all tax exempt. I think the money they save by not paying taxes is probably worth more than any assistance they would get.

After watching several of their shows, I can say that I am 99.99999% certain that they do not and would not accept government assistance. I remember one time when they showed her buying groceries that she either wrote a check or pulled cash out of her wallet. They also mentioned how much their average monthly food bill was, and greatly implied that they paid cash. Had they been on any sort of government assistance, surely food stamps would have been used. I further remember that in the first show, they had several "man on the street" questions about a family that had 14 (at the time) children, and that was one of the assumptions/questions that one of the people made -- that surely a family of that size would be on government assistance, and they said that not only were they not, but they were absolutely debt-free. (They are long-time Dave Ramsey fans, and got debt-free when their oldest was 4 years old, if I remember correctly.) I should probably ask my 9-year-old niece, because she has watched all of the Duggar shows several times, and even knows most or all of the children's names by sight! :-)

But you're absolutely right -- the only acceptable "choice" most so-called "pro-choice" advocates have is the choice to kill babies prenatally. Why else do they get so mad when women change their minds about having an abortion? Why do they get furious when pro-life advocates show pictures of unborn babies and tell pregnant women about fetal development, in an effort to get them to choose life. No, in the abortion-advocates mindset, the only "choice" is abortion.
