My Bible And I
2 Tim 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
KJV
Study, give diligence, work hard….all of these mean essentially the same thing. They let us know that the study of God’s Word is not necessarily easy on the flesh.
We are distracted by many things: television, radio, business, bills, children, chores, the duties and pleasures of life, so it is difficult to sit down with God’s Word.
When we do sit down with our Bibles and study it is tiring work.
Eccl 12:12
much study is a weariness of the flesh.
KJV
It is no wonder that we are called to expend great effort to rightly divide the Word of truth. It goes contrary to the fleshly desire for comfort and rest.
It is opposed to the fleshly desire for cheap, quick pleasure.
Oh, but the blessed result is that God is pleased with us seeking to find our pleasure in Him, and our seeking to glorify Him in our studies.
The blessings of God’s Word are innumerable.
Ps 19:7-11
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
