My Bible And I
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.” (2Tim 2:15-18)
How does one find assurance that his labors are approved of God? How can we be assured that we will not be ashamed in this life, or in the judgment? It is only by diligently applying ourselves to the Word of God. When we give great effort to learning and applying God’s Word to our lives we shall find ourselves profiting greatly from it.
Unfortunately, many today are living their lives depending on someone’s fallible opinion, the counsel of the ungodly, or religious traditions. These things eat as gangrene does. They do not profit the soul, but are corrupting, destroying, and damning influences. We must counteract these influences with truth.
Many time we have imbibed these bad influences without realizing it. The Word of God will reveal these things to us, because God’s Word reaches into the depths of our hearts, and nothing is hidden from Him (See Heb 4:12,13).
Let us be encouraged to strive to learn the truth as God has revealed it to us in the Scriptures. By doing this we shall find ourselves growing into that person with whom God is well pleased.
